Dzint Jurevicius

Born in Adelaide Hills to European parents following emigration to Australia after the war, Dzint Jurevicius was influenced in his early years to follow his passion for art and culture.

He studied at the prestigious south Australian School of Art, gaining a High Distinction in Painting. Writing of his inaugural exhibition in Lidums Gallery in The Advertiser in 1971, and later at Thorngate Gallery in 1973, he was identified as an emerging artist with exceptional talent.

After graduating in art and design secondary teaching in 1971, he spent the next decade in rural South Australia, his initial country appointment being in Naracoorte where he assisted in establishing the first regional art gallery later being appointed as the honorary Director. This experience was instrumental in developing appreciation for contemporary artists, which as a keen interest he continued to foster in others throughout his teaching career. One of the key highlights of his time as Director was the organisation of a respective exhibition of Norman Lindsay's work at the regional gallery.

Having recently retired from teaching secondary students, Dzint is now enjoying sharing his skills and experience through master classes in his studio gallery on Hindmarsh Island on the south coast.

Dzint has appreciated the opportunity his career in teaching in both public and private school systems has provided him in exploring and developing multiple skills in a variety of styles and techniques, such as oils, acrylics, water colour and guache as well as silk screen, lino print and scraper board mediums. While Dzint's work tends towards realism, he continues to explore semi abstract and cubist styles along with digital art.

His multi-faceted work is well recognised, winning top awards at Rotary Art shows in both regional and metropolitan exhibitions and painting festivals over many years.
