Lorraine Lewitzka
The subjects to which I am drawn are largely figurative in nature, either alone or collectively, engaged in the world around them. Beach and boat-scapes often feature in watercolour, and oils for intimate interiors such as cafes. I am exploring the elements of line, colour and texture and enjoy the freedom to experiment and move between mediums, including mixed media. The aim is to suggest the beauty and substance of life, evoking an emotional response…a work in progress.
Lorraine Lewitzka worked as a fashion and illustrative artist in the late 60’s beginning watercolour in 1985 when her children went to school. In 1988, she was accepted as a Fellow of the Royal South Australian Society of Arts and began exhibiting in private and mixed exhibitions.
Lorraine has been a full time painter since 1990 when she received the inaugural study grant from the Victor Harbor Rotary Art Show to study watercolour in the USA and life painting at the Slade School, London.
Through her partnership and marriage with Terry Lewitzka, she had opportunity to study and work with many tutors including Leonid Vasin, professor of Fine Art, China, studying drawing and traditional watercolour for two years.
She has demonstrated and taught watercolour both locally and nationally, including the prestigious Camberwell Art Show and the Victorian Watercolour Society. She worked as guest tutor for the Australian Guild of Realist Artists and judged their final 2006 awards exhibition. Lorraine admires and continually refers to John Singer Sargent, Brabazon Brabazon , and other noted artists of the 1800’s. She has won over 100 first prizes locally and interstate, teaches and judges occasionally.
