Sally-May Walker
My collage work comprises of compositions made up of layers of printed, photographed, and drawn pieces of paper. I arrange these pieces of paper together and on top of each other like building blocks, placing them to create layers and a depth within the composition. It is about space, line and relationship to each other.
Each piece is carefully considered before being ‘chosen’.
It’s about looking within the work, looking at the detail, the texture, the colour, and how each piece of paper sits with its’ neighbour, inviting the observer to look deeper within the image to find interesting components that can be cropped to create their own compositions within the whole image.
It is also about life, individual pieces fitting together, butting up against each other, overlaying, trying to fit in.
It’s about the urban environment taking over the natural spaces, and trying to find a balance within an abstract composition.
