Although Jo is formally trained in art and education, her interest in experimenting with new media and subject matter has continued throughout her professional career. She is a significant mentor to young people and emerging artists and encourages the development of creativity with passion and enthusiasm. She was an Art Educator at Saint Peters Girl School for 18 years and currently works as the Senior Art Teacher at Encounter Lutheran College teaching Art, and Design with students from Years 8-12. She has assisted many students to reach their goals for continuing their education in the arts. 2019, she coordinated the Schools Art Show for the schools on the Fleurieu Peninsula’s south coast.

Jo Eastaff has a special connection to her environment, especially the beautiful coastal environment and dramatic seascapes surrounding her home in Middleton on the Fleurieu Peninsula. She is a keen observer of changes along her beach and often gathers small and precious treasures of shells. These are often incorporated into her work, especially her jewellery and include her ‘Memory Makers’, tiny domes which incorporate a personal selection of natural material according to colour, tone and form. Her lino prints celebrate life in a coastal environment with summer scenes, the changing patterns over the seasons and the human interaction with

the sea. Much of her work has her unique (and often quirky) sense of humour and when you engage with individual pieces, there is a sense of joy!

Jo has strong skills and experience in painting, drawing, print making and jewellery. She is prolific and productive but quality and adherence to principles of design, composition, colour and perspective are evident in her work. Her studio with a wide range of materials provides a special workspace and it is wonderful place to visit during times such as SALA (South Australian Living Artists) festival held annually in August.
